The Sunlight Basin area is most popular for the late season hunts, area's 51 & 52. During this late season the bulls migrate from the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone National Park into the Sunlight Basin area where they will stay all winter. The large bulls travel with each other and away from the cows. They travel into what we call the bull patch. This is a popular bull area and one year a hunter counted as many as 40+ bulls, 5 points and better from one rock.  During the very good years “Jake says that if you take a bull that scores less than 340 B&C, you will have wasted your tag”.  The area is best if we get the colder weather and more snow as the bulls tend to be forced out of the park when the winter sets in. This is truly an awesome hunt if the migration is right and we get the cold weather or the snow.  This hunt, 8 out of 10 years is a good hunt.  2 out of 10 years the hunt won’t be anything but a pack trip.  The weather completely governs the elk migration.  Our best bull was 386, pictured above top photo of three elk.  The two sons also took very good bulls.  We do our best on all hunts and we will pack your game out to the trailhead or back to Cody.

We also have a hunting camp near Dubois, Wyoming hunt area 67. Here, too, the elk migrate from Yellowstone and find their way into this valley. We see a variety of elk and with more timber and many small meadows, this area is a haven for the archery or the avid hunter.
General Bull Season - October 1st thru October 31st. The Dubois area is well known for a good bull elk hunt. You will see a variety of bulls in this area. Because of the timbered area and small meadows the bull's have good cover, feed and water and stay in the area. You will hunt from our tent camps. We furnish you with 12' x 14' tents, stoves in each tent; cook tent, camp cook, wrangler, riding horses or mules and pack horses or mules. We will pack your game out to the trailhead or back to Dubois. Our hunts are 1 guide per 2 hunters or you may make arrangements for 1 guide per 1 hunter.  Be sure to sight your rifle in at 200 yards…as this is not an unusually long shot in these mountains.  Our guides are experts at judging distance and with your rifle sighted in at the 200 yards, our guides can advise you of any height adjustments, they are good at it.
Archery Season - September 1st thru the 30th. With the right weather to encourage the elk to get into their rut, this area is an archer’s dream.  You will hunt from our tent camps. We furnish you with wall tents, stoves in each tent; cook tent, camp cook, wrangler, mules and pack mules. We will pack your game out to the trailhead or back to Dubois.
Our guided archery hunters usually have at least one good shot at 50 yards or less.  Depending on your shooting ability and lady luck the archery hunters should have good clean shots at elk. We have many hunters join us on these hunts and the archer that can shoot very well should have no trouble beating the states average of 10 to 15% kill ratio.
Our guides do a good job of cow talking and bugling, and depending on the weather you should have a great opportunity at a nice bull during archery season.  We have had hunters take three separate shots at good bulls, we have hunters with bulls 20 feet from them and we have had hunters forget their glasses and not shoot a bull at 20 yards.  We will do our best to get you your game…but as usual, the real challenge is how well do you shoot and how good the weather will cooperate.

Drop Camps - For those of you who wish to do it yourself. We will pack you and your gear into the area of your choice. We will charge $65 per pack or riding animal used and $200 per wrangler, which includes his riding animal per day. One wrangler per each 6 pack or riding animals. Total maximum of 20 miles is considered one day, this would include 10 miles in, and 10 miles back out. You will also be charged for the mileage to and from the trailhead from our ranch.
Special Drop Camp-August 31st thru September 5th, and September 6th thru 11th, we provide the tents, cots, stoves and cooking gear for your drop camp. You bring your own food and personal gear. We will pack your game out to the trailhead or back to Dubois.

Cow Elk Hunts - November 1 thru December 15th or into January. The hunting area has a large number of cow elk in the area and because of this, there are a number of cow permits issued for these areas. Although we can not guarantee you will take a cow on these hunts, you would have to be the unluckiest hunter we have ever had if you don't have the opportunity to shoot at a cow elk. These hunts are great for the hunter who wishes to have a good elk for eating. They are wonderful father/mother and son/daughter hunts. You will stay in a motel in town, we recommend the Bald Mountain Inn in Dubois, or the Irma Hotel in Cody. . Each morning we will leave the motel, we will provide you with a lunch and each evening we will return you back to the motel. You will be responsible for your breakfast and dinner meals, and motel expenses. We will furnish you with transportation to and from town to our hunting area, mules or horses to get off the beaten path if needed and a good and knowledgeable guide. We will pack your game out to the trailhead or back to town.
